This month, IBEW Local 77 is proud to recognize Travis Human, Combustion Turbine Journeyworker at Puget Sound Energy, as our Shop Steward of the Month.

What makes Travis stand out? According to Business Representative Jen Watson, “Being 6'7" mostly.” But his more than 10 years of service as a Shop Steward probably has something to do with it, too.

Over the years, Travis has taken on an impressive number of roles on behalf of his fellow members. He has served on multiple Labor Management Committees, supporting not only his own classification but others as well, and has participated on the Foreman Pool Committee and Small Negotiations Committee. He has also attended two years at the Grace Carroll Rocky Mountain Labor School, reflecting his commitment to continuing to learn and deepen his understanding of the labor movement.

During his time on the Small Negotiations Committee, Travis took on the significant task of tracking proposals and formatting the first contract language changes in nearly a decade. This is work that required patience, organization, and a willingness to take responsibility for something that mattered to the entire bargaining unit.

Jen says Travis is also one of the people she knows she can count on. “As a Rep, I rely on my Shop Stewards more than they rely on me. He always makes himself available to assist with anything I need and, more importantly, is always willing to lend an ear to myself as well as his fellow members.”

That willingness to show up, for the Union, for his coworkers, and for the people around him, is ultimately what makes Travis deserving of recognition.

“He does what he does because he truly cares.”
